This year the Reno Air Race Association hosted air races for seven separate classes of planes including, Unlimited Class, Jet Class, Super Sport Class, Sport Class, T-6 Class, Formula One Class, and the Biplane Class. For each racing class, there are race heats that begin with qualification, and move on thru Bronze, Silver, and Gold races. The accompanying air show included performances by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, and Aerobatics by David Martin, Kent Pietsch, Greg Poe and Michael Goulian. There were also two static display areas, one for heritage aircraft and a second area for military aircraft. For the first time in its 47 year history, the Unlimited Gold race was canceled because of high winds gusting to 35 mph. Steve Hinton, pilot of #7 P-51D Mustang “Strega”, was awarded the title because he won the Unlimited Gold class qualifying race on Saturday.
